Passive checks
In some contests, one side uses a fixed score instead of rolling a die.
An observer detecting a hidden creature, or a creature resisting a shove, can use 10 plus the relevant skill modifier and other bonuses. Advantage contributes +5 and Disadvantage −5 to this score.
Not every automatic Perception notification during exploration uses this method. Distinguish the active roll from the fixed score opposing it.
