Magical Darkness and light
Magical Darkness can block sight and ranged attacks in ways ordinary darkness does not.
Normal Darkvision does not see through the Darkness spell. Check for an explicit ability such as Devil’s Sight that works in magical darkness.
Light-producing effects are not all equivalent. Illuminating an area and dispelling magical darkness are different abilities.
