Armour proficiency
You may be able to equip armour without proficiency, but doing so can hinder combat and spellcasting.
Unfamiliar armour can impose Disadvantage on relevant rolls and prevent casting. Do not choose armour by Armour Class alone.
Check shields and armour in other slots as well. Your classes and feats determine which armour proficiencies you have.
