Reeling

Reeling lowers the target’s attack rolls according to its remaining turns.

Stage 3 · Combining effectsEquipment and stacking

It makes the affected enemy less likely to hit. It does not itself prevent movement or automatically knock the enemy Prone.

Equipment can apply it under different conditions, such as when an enemy hits or misses you. Read the trigger as well as the result.

Ordinary Reeling is removed when the affected creature makes its next attack. Do not assume the same penalty remains for several turns.

An attack roll decides whether an attack hits. The total must meet or exceed the target’s Armour Class.

Stage 1 · Combat basicsAttacks and dice

Roll a d20 and add the applicable ability modifier, proficiency bonus, and other attack bonuses. The weapon or spell determines which ability applies.

Damage is calculated after the hit is decided. A larger attack-roll total does not itself deal more damage.

Add the relevant ability modifier, proficiency, and other bonuses to the die. Meeting the target number is enough to succeed.

Attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks use different bonuses. A bonus to one does not automatically apply to the others.
