Spell slots
Spell slots are resources spent to cast spells, separate from the action cost.
Slots have levels. A level 2 spell normally needs a slot of level 2 or higher. Without an appropriate slot, you cannot cast it in the same way.
Most spell slots return on a Long Rest, but Warlocks work differently. Item-granted spells can use their own charges instead of slots.
